Motivation Essay

Season: 2020

There are several essays embedded in the application form. Each essay has a maximum word limit, which is stated under each essay box. Respecting this word limit is an important exercise to see how you express your ideas in a concise way, and you will not be able to submit your application if you exceed the word limit.

Give a candid description of yourself (who are you as a person), stressing the personal characteristics you feel to be your strengths and weaknesses and the main factors which have influenced your personal development, giving examples when necessary. (approx. 500 words)

Describe the achievement of which you are most proud and explain why. In addition, describe a situation where you failed. How did these experiences impact your relationships with others? Comment on what you learned. (approx. 400 words)

Describe all types of extra-professional activities in which you have been or are still involved for a significant amount of time (clubs, sports, music, arts, politics, etc). How are you enriched by these activities? (approx. 300 words)

Is there anything else that was not covered in your application that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee? (approx. 300 words)

Job Essay

Season: 2018

The job questions are not essays. Hence, the number of words is not so important. People need to be comfortable writing 3 lines or 20. Some applicants work for companies that are well known and only 3 lines are sufficient to describe them; others work for small companies where it is helpful to give the full picture.

Briefly summarise your current (or most recent) job, including the nature of work, major responsibilities, and where relevant, employees under your supervision, size of budget, clients/products and results achieved. (short answer – recommended: 300 words)

What would be your next step in terms of position if you were to remain in the same company? (short answer – recommended: 100 words)

Please give a full description of your career since graduating from university. Describe your career path with the rationale behind your choices. (short answer – recommended: 300 words)

Discuss your short and long term career aspirations with an MBA from INSEAD. (short answer – recommended: 200 words)

Letter of Recommendation

Season: 2018

Two professional recommendation letters are required, providing information about your leadership and management potential. As such, at least one recommendation should come from your workplace; your current supervisor or manager is usually a good choice. The other recommendation should be from someone who has had a chance to evaluate you in a professional setting, for example, a client, a former supervisor or a colleague from your community service or extracurricular activities. Academic recommendations are acceptable but they are less likely to address our main interest, which is to assess your ability to work with and manage others as well as your potential for senior management. If you feel it would add value to your application, you may also upload an optional third letter of recommendation as part of the supporting documents.

Admissions Verdict

“Strong academics, international experience, and a significant level of responsibility professionally are basic essentials. But to really wow the admissions committee, it's important to have something extra and an outstanding narrative.” Consultant2018
